Transformation for herbicide resistance
Transgenic hot peppers showing resistance to bialaphos, a non-selective
herbicidehavebeen generated60 by transfer of the bar genevia A. tumefaciens.
Transgenic plants were capable of withstanding 5000 mg-1L of bialaphos
applied to the leaves. Sweet peppers expressing the pat (phosphinothricin Nacetyl
transferase) gene introduced via. Atumefaciens exhibited tolerance to
applications of 0.44% of the commercial preparation of Basta containing 20%
phosphinothricin.61
