Danaea

This group consists of one tender, evergreen shrub from Syria, Persia, and Transcaucasia. The leaves of this plant are actually flattened stems and it bears panicles of hermaphrodite flowers in early summer. D. racemosa (Alexandrian Laurel) is a small shrub with arching sprays of slender, glossy green "leaves". Its cream flowers are followed by decorative, orange-red fruits if the summer has been hot. The branches of this shrub are great for cutting.

Pot Cultivation

Plant Alexandrian Laurels in loamy soil that holds moisture well, in a sunny or partially shaded location.

Propagation

The clumps may be lifted and divided in the spring.
