Heliopsis
These pretty perennials are natives of North America. They are great plants for the herbaceous border and they provide beautiful flowers for cutting. The height of the varieties range from 3 to 5 feet. H. helianthoides variety scabra Sommersonne forms clumps of dark green, oval to lance-shaped, toothed leaves. In late summer, tons of large, single flowers are borne; their rich yellow petals surround dark orange-yellow centers. H. 'Ballet Dancer' has large, double, Daisy-like flowers with toothed, rich yellow petals surrounding dark orange disks.
Pot Cultivation
They may be grown on any moderately fertile soil, in full sun. They will tolerate dry soil, but do much better on ground they will stay fairly moist throughout the summer. Certain varieties will need some kind of support provided to help carry the weight of the flowers. Lift and divide the clumps periodically to help maintain vigor.
