Neptunia

These are tropical, aquatic plants that can float on the surface of your water. These plants are commonly known as Sensitive Plants because the foliage is touch sensitive. They produce white, spongy, floating stems along the surface of the water and these are clothed in finely pinnate leaves. Occasionally, in mid-summer, fringed, female flowers are produced; these are held above unnoticeable, brown male flowers.

Pot Cultivation

Sensitive Plants can only be grown outdoors year-round in tropical climates. These plants can simply be placed on the surface of the water or can be anchored in gallon containers of soil or pea gravel. They should receive full sun to partial shade. In warm, tropical climates, Sensitive Plants may become very invasive; they need to be watched carefully. In cool climates, they may be wintered indoors in a well-lighted aquarium.

Propagation

They can be increased by rooting stem cuttings.
