Program Description
The Virginia Cooperative Extension Program, Virginia State University (VSU), and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University cooperating, provides educational opportunities to small and part-time farmers. Educational opportunities are provided in nontraditional enterprises, sustainable agriculture production systems and financial management that are applicable to the resources of a small or part-time farm unit.

Extension Specialists conduct annual conferences in Forest Stewardship, Ginseng, Hydroponics, Dried Flowers, and Aquaculture production with a total of five hundred plus participants.

Assistance is available for:
  • Completing application for farm ownership and operating loans Identifying inventory land to purchase.
  • Preparing farm and home plans Developing farm record system for individual farm operations Analyzing financial situation of farm businesses, and
  • Evaluating existing and new alternative farm enterprises.
