Soil Solution Boron
In soil solution, boron mainly exists as undissociated acid H
3BO
3. Boric acid (also written as
B(OH)3) and H
2BO
3 are the most common geologic forms of boron, with boric acid being the predominant
form in soils as reviewed by Evans and Sparks
(52). They further reported that boric acid
is the major form of boron in soils with H
2BO
3 being predominant only above pH 9.2. In their
review, they stated that boron occurs in aqueous solution as boric acid B(OH)3, which is a weak
monobasic acid that acts as an electron acceptor or as a Lewis acid.
